  • To lose weight, drink a glass of warm water with 1 tablespoon of honey and the juice of ½ lemon on an empty stomach daily in the morning.

This odd combination can help with sleep apnea because milk has the amino acid tryptophan that stimulates a sound  sleep. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce inflammation in the respiratory system helping you to have a quality sleep.


  • Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder to a cup of milk.
  • Boil and allow it for a few minutes on low flame.
  • Remove from heat and add a little honey.
  • Drink it daily 30 minutes before going to sleep.

Epsom Salt Bath

It is not really clear how this will help sleep apnea but naturopathic practitioners advise taking an epsom salt bath before retiring to bed. The magnesium in the epsom salt is supposed to relax the muscles and give the person a feeling of well-being. It is not clear how magnesium can give the body a feeling of well-being. This will promote quality sleep and it reduces inflammation in the critical areas of the body. This treatment needs to be investigated further. There is no sound support for this nome remedy.


  • Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to warm bathwater and mix well.
  • Soak in this bath for about 20 minutes at least 1 hour before going to bed.
  • Use this remedy 2 or 3 times a week.


This is an odd home remedy for sleep apnea. Almonds would be the furthest treatment you would think could help sleep apnea. Besides tasting good almonds may have some therapeutic value. Almonds may help sleep apnea because they contain magnesium that helps to relax the muscles which promote sound sleep. It also relaxes the muscles as we discovered in the epsom salt bath section. Almonds also help to regulate the body’s internal clock which would seem to have no effect on sleep apnea. How can regulating the body’s internal clock stop the body from breathing involuntarily.

It is advised to consult a doctor before trying this treatment to stop sleep apnea. Almonds do not appear to be a valid option for inhibiting sleep apnea there is not strong evidence to support this claim. This home remedy is very suspect to be able to help with sleep apnea.It does not seem to deal with the core issues that cause sleep apnea.


  • Eat a handful of dry roasted or soaked almonds every day.
  • Alternatively, at least 1 hour before going to bed eat toast with almond butter, followed by a glass of water.

This is a very odd home remedy indeed to treat sleep apnea. These throat exercises can strengthen muscles to prevent blocked or narrowed airways in your nose, mouth or throat. This in turn will provide you with a sound sleep. They also reduce or completely eliminate snoring.


  • Blow a balloon using deep breaths without taking it out of your mouth for as long as possible. Repeat this exercise 5 times daily. While doing this exercise, make sure to inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This will facilitate proper airflow through your nose during sleep.
  • Playing the Didgeridoo 6 days a week for about 25 minutes each time can also reduce moderate sleep apnea symptoms.
  • Consult your doctor to learn about more throat exercises.

  • Inhale steam deeply through your nose for 10 minutes before going to bed to prevent congestion. This may not be a feasible option.

  • Drink ½ cup of Indian gooseberry juice before going to bed.No clinical support for this option.
  • Use an oral appliance like continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea. This is a sure option to inhibit sleep apnea. The machine is specifically designed to stop this sleeping disorder.
  • Avoid sleeping on your back as it can cause your tongue and soft palate to rest on the back of your throat, which can block your airway. Rather, sleep on your side or abdomen. This may be a stretch that the tongue and soft palate would rest on the back of the throat thus blocking the airway.
  • Avoid caffeine and heavy meals within 2 hours of going to bed. The correlation to stopping sleep apnea is not seen in these two options.
  • Maintain regular sleep hours to help you relax and sleep better. This is a good option to apply.
  • Avoid alcohol and sedatives as they prevent the brain from getting enough oxygen to perform properly. This is a great common sense approach.
  • Use a humidifier or steam vaporizer in the bedroom to keep your air passages moist. This may not work.
  • Massage your body with warm olive oil or coconut oil before going to bed to help you sleep better. How is this supposed to inhibit sleep apnea?
  • Lose excess weight. This will help relieve constriction in your throat and improve your health condition. This is a sound option with clinical support.
  • Quit smoking as it can worsen sleep apnea symptoms. How does it does it worsen the symptoms?
  • Take magnesium and calcium supplements, which are both sleep boosters. Consult your doctor for the correct dosage. Consult your doctor before trying these options.
  • Increase your intake of vitamin C to improve communication passageways between the brain and other body parts. This may be an irrelevant option to inhibit sleep apnea.
  • Try acupuncture in conjunction with standard treatments to treat sleep apnea symptoms. There is no clinical evidence to verify the relationship between acupuncture and inhibiting sleep apnea.

The remedies most of them have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce swelling in the key body areas to stop snoring and open up airways.Once the airways are cleared it helps the oxygen to pass through the airways and allow for more regulated breathing that will not be obstructed or interrupted.  

Adjust the Sleeping Position

Here again it is advised that you do not sleep on your back because it has been shown the soft palate and tongue will press against the back of the throat amplifying snoring and other sleep apnea symptoms. But it is still hard to justify that the tongue and soft palate will press against the back of the throat if you sleep on your back. If you elevate your bed it may help reduce snoring and adding more pillows will lift the neck which could help to stop snoring.

The University of Maryland medical Center says “sleeping on your side using a pillow that keeps your head slightly raised is usually the best sleep position to alleviate sleep apnea symptoms.”
