So, we have all seen those images where they show the dark circles and bags under the eyes. But we don’t just want to see these; we want to see them disappear under our own eyes.
We want to see clear eyes with no bags or dark circles and we want to see the results as quickly as possible. You know it’s one of those “tell me something I don’t know” scenarios.”I know I have those unwanted features under my eyes. How do I get rid of them?” This is the vital information everyone is hunting for.
Before we tackle the problem of how to get rid of them let’s explore a few reasons of why they occur. They are related to natural changes in the human body and by environmental conditions.
Genetics is a Definite Cause
We have all heard the age old saying” Like Father like son.” What this really means if dad has black circles and bags under his eyes his son will inherit the same characteristics. Bags under the eyes, are a result of fatty patches genetically passed on to the next generation.
Dark circles under the eyes are a little more complicated. There are a few reasons for these.Thin/Fair skin under the eyes can be passed on genetically. When this happens pools of blood will accumulate under the eyes. Then this accumulation causes weak capillaries to stretch and leak.
Age is a Factor
Mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes is normal with aging. The tissue supporting the eyelids grows weaker overtime then the normal fat supporting the lids will move into the lower eyelids. This causing the eyelids to look puffy.
Dark circles can appear when with age collagen thins and veins appear more dominantly. Sunbathing can speed this process up by breaking down collagen and changing the color of the skin.
Seasonal allergies release histamines in the air. This will inflame blood vessels causing swelling. Allergies will cause “puffy eyes” making the eyes swell. Antihistamines can relieve these allergic reactions. We have now reviewed how black circles and bags under the eyes develop.
Ways to Get Rid of Dark circles under the Eyes
If you have black circles because of vascular issues then there are some very practical steps you can take to help alleviate these conditions. Double up on pillows at night when your are sleeping. This will stop the blood from flowing to your eyes. In the morning apply a cold compress for about 5 minutes; this will constrict blood vessels in your eyes which will also stop blood flowing into your eyes.
You can purchase eye creams that contain caffeine which will also constrict blood vessel flow. Other good treatments are applying Arnica-based creams which may reduce anti-inflammatory symptoms under your eyes. This could reduce the black color under your eyes. Believe it or not you can buy creams, containing green tea or grapeseed oil, to help strengthen capillary walls which will prevent blood from leaking under your eyes. This will also help stop dark circles from developing under your eyes.
This is an interesting fact but if you change your diet you may help reduce black circles under the eyes. Eat about an ounce of dark chocolate and eat foods with Omega 3 fatty acids contained in them. (Such as salmon and walnuts.) This will in turn, improve the blood flow to your eyes.
Now, if we have black circles because of allergy-induced reasons you can stop this as well. Over-the-counter antihistamines will help alleviate dark circles under the eyes caused by allergies.
If thin-skin is the cause for dark circles under your eyes, there is hope for you as well. Try some collagen rejuvenating creams. Purchase “Retinol” which is known to build up collagen. Look for Vitamin C which can aid in collagen production and brighten skin. Please note that sunscreen should be applied daily under the eyes. If this isn’t done all the redeeming properties of the above remedies will be neutralized.
Potatoes Can Help
You may be thinking this is the craziest one yet! But this method really does work. Quite simply take one or two potatoes. Grate them and extract the potato juice. Get a cotton ball and soak it in the juice. Press that cotton ball over your closed eyes and make sure the juice covers the dark circles and the eyelids as well. Alternatively, you may use potato skins and put them over your dark circles.
Almond oil and Vitamin E are Deterrents
Almond oil is a strong natural remedy to reduce dark circles under the eyes. Gently rub the Almond Oil under your eyes every night before you retire for bed. Leave the application on overnight. The next morning wash it off with cold water. Follow this treatment every night until the dark circles are gone. Vitamin E can also assist in removing dark circles under the eyes.
