Amazing Health Benefits of Ginger Turmeric Tea

Ginger Turmeric tea may have some very strong health benefits that cannot be ignored. Some of the benefits could deflect some serious health benefits even to the extent of being life-saving. Ginger turmeric tea may not be considered a super tea like some of the famous health teas out there but it is a formidable health agent in it’s own right. It may be that not a lot of people associate ginger turmeric tea with healthy living. But ginger tea may be a good addition to a healthy lifestyle.

A Historical Snapshot of Ginger Tea and Turmeric

First off ginger is a flowering plant native to Southern Asia and most likely a person would be familiar with the root of the ginger plant. It is used in many dishes to add flavoring to them and it has been used for medicinal purposes as well. Ginger has a hot, spicy taste which is used in dishes across to the world from Indian chai masala to a palate-cleansing sushi accompaniment in Japan. It has a long history of being used for traditional health purposes. Ginger’s most famous folk remedy is that it’s supposed to help with diarrhea, gas, and nausea. One case noted that the person gave ginger root to the kids for car sickness on road trips. The remedy has worked wonders for her children’s car sickness. It may be helpful for respiratory issues and colds but there is no solid scientific research to support this claim.

Turmeric’s Turn

Turmeric is a herbaceous perennial plant (Also known as herbaceous perennials, these plants are the mainstay of garden borders. They can be deciduous (die back each year), such as delphiniums; or evergreen, like many grasses. Pick wisely and you’ll get year-round interest.) in the ginger family which is native to India. It’s root is a common denominator in Indian cooking especially in curries. The root is boiled, dried and ground into a yellow-orange spice powder which has a earthy, peppery taste. Turmeric is used in the Indian wedding ceremony to soften the skin. In Ayurvedic practices it’s used for indigestion, colds, liver ailments and skin sores. So ginger and turmeric are used for indigestion. Let’s get to the health benefits turmeric ginger tea.

May Increase Lifespan

In all honesty this is a shot in the dark. There has been no human research to support this claim. The study was conducted on fruit flies (hardly a species comparable to humans but their life spans are so short they are quite often used in experiments. The generational effects of the research will show up relatively quickly compared to other species.) The study concluded that fruit flies supplemented with turmeric ginger tea had significantly increased lifespans. Please remember this study was conducted on fruit flies not human beings. The results may be dramatically different if conducted on human beings. For one thing it would take a generation to see if the ginger turmeric tea really increased the life spans of humans. It must be emphasized here that there is absolutely no clinical support, at the human level, to guarantee ginger turmeric tea will increase the human lifespan. Much research has to be done to confirm this benefit.

Don’t Flame on

A study published in the journal “Oncogene” compared the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric with conventional drugs ibuprofen and aspirin. Amazingly, it was found to be stronger with fewer side effects and it’s a natural anti-inflammatory agent. Ginger was used to treat severe anti-inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and ulcerative colitis. Ginger turmeric tea significantly reduced inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Possibly it may prevent arthritis all together. This hasn’t been proven to be the case that it could prevent arthritis all together. If you suffer from chronic inflammation it may be to your ato drink a cup of turmeric ginger tea a day.

An Enemy of Diabetes

Turmeric ginger tea has been known to have an effect on insulin and blood sugar. It’s claimed that turmeric ginger tea’s blood-sugar lowering abilities may be better than a common antidiabetic drug. This conclusion was based on one study. If you are already taking medicine for diabetes you may want to consult your doctor before adding turmeric ginger tea to your daily diet.

Defender Against Cancer

There are many health agents that claim they can help fight cancer. But supposedly ginger turmeric tea has scientific proof to support its claim that it will help fight cancer. A study published in the “British Journal of Cancer” claim that ginger turmeric tea has the ability to fight cancerous tumors. Ginger turmeric tea may have the ability to fight ovarian, bladder and lung cancer. Both turmeric and ginger plants have antioxidant properties that may explain these plant’s abilities to fight these cancers.

These are some of those claims that may or may not be true. It has been suggested that ginger turmeric tea may prevent alzheimer’s and boost brain repair. In a study conducted on animals it found that turmeric can help promote nueral stem cell growth which is supposed to speed up brain repair. Remember, this was a study conducted on animals and their brain cell structures may be quite different from human’s brain cell structures. In no way can this study prove that turmeric can help stimulate nueral stem cell growth in the human brain. This claim needs to have more scientific studies done to prove its validity. Another study may suggest that curcumin in turmeric could slow buildup of beta-amyloids – destructive substances involved in the brains of those with Alzheimer’s disease. It may also help with inflammation in the brains of alzheimer’s patients. These conclusions need further research to prove these claims to be authentic.      

Fighter Against Digestion, Nausea and Vomiting

We talked about ginger turmeric tea can help to combat nausea issues. It may help with digestion and vomiting as well. It is a well-known fact that ginger turmeric tea can help with motion sickness or an upset stomach. In the ginger root there are two compounds shogaol and gingerol that seem to help with these conditions. Ginger relaxes the muscles allowing food to pass through  the digestive tract smoothly without any issues. Turmeric may help with indigestion reducing symptoms such as bloating and gas.

A Friend of the Heart

Ginger prevents blood clots which help stimulate heart attacks and strokes. If you are taking other medications be careful because these medicines may have a major interaction with ginger turmeric tea. If this applies to you check with your doctor before consuming ginger turmeric tea. Curcumin in turmeric is supposed to lower the cholesterol. If you consume ginger turmeric tea along with anti-cholesterol medicines such as statins it may lead to an increased reduction in cholesterol.

Infections Beware

“The Journal of Microbiology and Antimicrobials” compared ginger’s antibacterial properties to common antibiotics. They concluded that it’s anti-bacterial properties are stronger than the anti-bacterial properties found in the antibiotics this could probably use more scientific study. Circumin is claimed to be one of the strongest antifungals being stronger than ginger, ove and oregano. Ginger may have a better ability to kill staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus pyogenes than conventional drugs.

Mood Enhancer and Depression Fighter

A study conducted in India, on 60 people, with major depressive disorders, was found to be as effective as prozac in keeping the disorders in check. It didn’t have the nasty side effects that prozac did.

A Friend to Skin

Ginger Turmeric tea has been know to help with skin issues for years. It antibacterial properties help fight acne and its anti-inflammatory properties ease redness and soreness. You can help your skin immensely by drinking ginger turmeric tea and why not use it a natural  facial mask?

Fat Burner

It’s unofficially proposed that ginger turmeric tea may because of the ginger and turmeric  be a solid fat burner. These ingredients in the tea supposedly improves energy which can help a person burn off more fat.The person needs to be motivated to workout.

Remedy for Colds

Ginger turmeric tea contains the strong ginger root. This root may help if fighting colds and other respiratory ailments. At this point in time there isn’t a lot of clinical support for this assertion.

Ginger Turmeric Tea Preparations

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • Honey or stevia to taste

Directions:
Heat the water (not boiling) and slowly add it to the turmeric and ginger in a cup, making a paste at first. When the tea is thoroughly mixed, add honey or stevia to sweeten. You will need to stir this before drink as the ginger will settle to the bottom.

Creamy Version

Same Ingredients as above
Directions:
Put the cup of almond milk into a pot and heat it over the hob. Add a small amount of milk to the turmeric, ginger and sweetener and mix until there are no lumps present. Then add the rest of the milk.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/2 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 tablespoon of raw honey for taste.

Directions:
Whisk all ingredients in a small saucepan over low flame. Allow the tea to boil at least for 10 minutes so that you can allow the ingredients to infuse and any powdered ingredients to dissolve. Add milk to the tea or you can have it plain. Your healthy beverage of ginger turmeric tea is now ready.

Anti-Inflammatory Ginger Turmeric Tea

Ingredients:
For 1 cup of water use 1 teaspoon each of fresh grated turmeric and ginger roots. If you use ground turmeric and ginger, use 1/3 teaspoon each. Add raw honey to taste and a slice of lemon if you want.

Directions:
In a small saucepan, bring water to boil. Add fresh grated turmeric and ginger (or ground ones), reduce heat, and simmer for about 5 minutes with the lid covered. Then strain the tea and add the honey once the tea has cooled down, as well as lemon to taste. Once the tea is ready, add the coconut oil or black pepper to increase turmeric absorption.

How Often to use this Inflammatory Tea

Drink the concoction whenever you’re inflammation flares up. There is no set timeframe for when to drink the anti-inflammatory tea.

The Benefits of the Ingredients used in this Tea

  • Lemons– Are beneficial for flushing out the kidneys which prevents kidney stones and urinary tract infections. Good source of vitamin C which is supposed to be one of the best antioxidants in nature
  • Ginger- A good source for stomach issues it it supposed to help the food travel faster from the stomach to the intestines helping with issues such as:indigestion, acid reflux, bloating, and gas. It’s also super effective in helping with inflammation.      
  • Turmeric– is another powerful anti-inflammatory which is high in antioxidants. Curcumin is the main ingredient in turmeric which helps the immune system fight infection and has pain-relieving properties. Say goodbye to headaches.
  • Cayenne- It will add a kick to the mix and it will benefit your insides. It helps with weight loss and inflammation. It will give your immune system a boost with its source of beta-carotene
  • Cinnamon- The final kicker in the mix. It has more antioxidants to help combat infection and it may help to elevate insulin sensitivity thus stabilizing blood sugar levels

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups water
  • 1 chunk fresh ginger {approximately 5-6″ in length}
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 6 fresh lemons

Instructions:

  • peel the ginger and dice into thin slices.
  • in a large pot or saucepan over high heat on the stove combine the peeled and sliced ginger and water. bring to a boil. then turn to low heat and let simmer for approximately 10 minutes.
  • after 10 minutes, add the cinnamon sticks, turmeric and cayenne and simmer on low heat for another 10 minutes; stirring occasionally.
  • then remove from heat, let cool and strain.
  • this makes about 6 cups of a concentrated version of the detox tea which you can store in a glass container in the fridge. you can drink this concentrate warm or cold and add ½ fresh lemon juice right before you enjoy.
  • You can add ¼ cup of this mixture to ½ fresh lemon juice and 6 oz hot water.

Ginger Turmeric Tea Preparations

Golden Milk: Creamy Turmeric and Ginger Tea with Coconut Milk

Ingredients:

  • 1 1-inch knob fresh turmeric
  • 1½-inch knob fresh ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ghee
  • 1 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon manuka honey

Directions:
Peel both the turmeric and ginger, then grate them finely into a mortar or a molcajete.  Spoon the ghee into the mortar or molcajete, and grind the ghee into the turmeric and ginger with your pestle until they form a fine paste.

  • Pour the coconut milk and coconut water into a saucepan, and spoon in the paste made with turmeric, ginger and ghee.
  • Turn the heat up to medium-high and warm the ingredients together until little bubbles just begin to creep up the sides of the pot.
  • Turn off the heat and cover the saucepan, allowing the turmeric and ginger to steep about 3 minutes.
  • Strain the golden milk through a fine-mesh strainer or tea strainer into a tea pot.
  • Stir in the Manuka honey and continue stirring until it dissolves. Serve warm.

Note* If you cannot find fresh turmeric thn substitute, two teaspoons of organic powdered turmeric. Also, golden milk is historically made with cow’s milk.  If you don’t want to use coconut milk or coconut water. Then us 2 cups of whole milk

This is a different twist on the tea concept.

This is Anti-Inflammatory Lemon Ginger Turmeric Iced Tea

Ingredients:

  • ½ qt water
  • ½ a lemon, sliced or rough chopped (or more to taste), rind included
  • 1″ ginger root, rough chopped (or more to taste)
  • big dash of turmeric
  • big dash cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (more or less to taste) unusual ingredient to be adding to iced tea

Instructions for Iced Tea:

  • Fill a 2 quart pot about ¾ full with water. Add in all other ingredients and bring to a boil on the stove. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Then remove from heat and allow the drink to cool off. Strain into a glass jar.
  • Chill overnight in the fridge for an iced tea (or enjoy hot straight away)!
