Oil Cleansing Method Guide

Today’s health advertisements would like the general public to believe that the only way to truly thoroughly clean our faces is by using harsh soaps that really dry out the skin and deplete it of all of its natural oils. The face has a natural film of oil on it to act as a barrier to protect the skin from the harsh elements of the environment.

In the case of dry skin, the skin will get drier without the oil and worse skin health issues will ensue. For oily skin, once the oils are depleted the skin will just produce more oil to make up for the oil lost. This will result in worse acne problems for those who have oily skin.

The latest trend is to use the opposite approach of cleansing with soap-based products and that is to use oils for a deep cleaning. The method is based on the principle that oil attracts oil. So the oils used in the deep cleaning method will draw not only excess oil, but dirt, grime, and makeup that may be clogging the pores. This eliminates a lot of foreign substances including excess oil from the pores.

How the Oil Cleansing Method Works

How the Oil Cleansing Method Works

A proper oil cleansing can give the skin the most efficient cleaning and lower the risk of having skin conditions later on. People worry about adding extra oil to their oily skin because they think it will compound an already severe acne problem.

The reality is the oils from the oil cleansing saturate the pores and remove all the hardened oil accumulated in the pores along with dirt, grit and other foreign substances. These oils will remove all this junk out of the pores and leave the natural oil already in the skin intact.

The best way to use this oil cleansing method is a mild steaming process. This steaming process will extract all the dirt and other substances out of the clogged pores completely leaving them open and able to breathe.

Preparation of Cleansing Oil

You have taken a big step and have decided which oils you will use for your oil cleansing method. Here is another important step to get the right percentage of olds mixed together. It is not just a random process where you just guess about much oil to measure. You must measure the oil proportionately and mix them together depending on your skin type. Keep in mind that if you have dry skin you are going to measure out larger quantities.

For dry skin, you need more oil to travel into the pores to remove all the bacteria, dirt, and grime that accumulates in the pores. Your dry skin will not have the same amount of oil as a natural barrier as the other skin types will. So, add large quantities of the thinner oil to the castor oil which is your base oil. Approximate measurements according to skin type below:

Normal Skin: Do not use more than 20 percent castor oil for this skin type in the Oil Cleansing Method. You can use just about any secondary oil to mix with the castor oil.

Dry Skin: Girls with dry skin use only 10 percent castor oil in the oil cleansing method. To the castor oil add 20 percent olive oil and 60 percent avocado oil. This will ensure you will get a very nourishing oil mixture for the oil cleansing method.

Oily Skin: Girls with oily skin should use 30 percent castor oil in the oil blend. Mix in sunflower seed oil or sweet almond oil with the castor oil or use both oils together if you need to in your oil cleansing blend.

Acne Prone Skin: For those that have acne prone skin your best bet is to blend 20 percent castor oil with 40 percent grapeseed oil and 40 percent olive oil or sunflower seed oil in your oil cleansing method. Notice you double the amount of the secondary oils to the base oil when blending these oils together.

Aging Skin: For this oil cleansing method you should not add more than 10 percent to the mixture. Then add 40 percent avocado oil and 20 percent argan oil and 30 percent evening primrose oil to round out the oil cleansing mixture. Remember, that argan oil is a very expensive oil to purchase. You may be able to find a cheaper alternative if you do not want to spend the money on this oil.
